English 10
In English 10, students will engage in literary analysis and analyze the author’s craft and structure in both fiction and nonĀfiction texts from a Christian perspective that reminds us of the larger narrative of the Gospel. Students explore different genres, such as the Gothic short stories of Poe, the Heroās Journey of Tolkien’s The Hobbit, the persuasion of speeches by historical heroes like Martin Luther King, Jr., and the Romantic Comedy of Shakespeare. Students will develop as stronger writers when they work to produce, evaluate, and revise narrative, persuasive, analytical, and research writing using clear organization and appropriate style and tone. A love of reading will also be encouraged by inviting students to choose their own books to read and discuss throughout the year. This love of reading is something that they will spread to others as they work on a Literacy Engagement service project for younger children. Students will develop as stronger writers when they work to produce, evaluate, and revise narrative, persuasive, analytical, and research writing using clear organization and appropriate style and tone.
