Professional Biography

I am a graduate of Azusa Pacific University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physical Education in 1995. I completed my California Single Subject Teaching Credential in 2000 and currently hold a California Professional Clear Credential in Physical Education. In 2007 I completed my Masters of Education degree in Physical Education, also at APU. While completing my advanced degree I wrote a thesis on childhood obesity comparing more than 250 students from Ontario Christian Middle School and Oaks Middle School in the Ontario-Montclair School District. In 2001 I also acquired a Cross Language Acquisition and Development Certificate from the University of San Diego. Prior to coming to Ontario Christian Schools I taught middle school physical education at Oaks Middle School for three and half years and was an elementary physical education specialist for four years in the Ontario-Montclair School District. In addition to teaching at Ontario Christian I am also an Instructor of Health and Physical Education at Providence Christian College in Pasadena where I have taught for the past six years. I am also an avid soccer coach and hold coaching licenses from the US Soccer Federation and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. I am also a member for the California Interscholastic Federation-Southern Section Soccer Advisory Committee and am a member of the Southern California Soccer Coaches Association.

Personal Biography

I was born and raised in San Diego’s East County and lived there for twenty years before relocating to the area I now call home. After attending APU where I met my wife Joyce, we settled in the area and have most recently called Ontario our home for the past ten years. Joyce is also teaching at OC in a fourth grade classroom. Together we raise four boys and currently three of them attend Ontario Christian as well. When we are not on campus we enjoy spending time outdoors. Some of our favorite things to do are camping, hiking, fishing, and taking the boat out for some waterskiing and wakeboarding. As a family we attend Ontario United Reformed Church where I have served as both a Deacon and Elder.

Philosophical Biography

I am a firm believer in Christian education and the way in which it can build up the child to view God and His handiwork in all facets of our lives. My favorite scripture comes from Matthew 7:13-14, “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” This verse is always on my heart and my goal as an educator is not only to lead the students in my discipline, but hopefully along the way I can be a mentor that helps lead them down the narrow road and into the small gate.
